Are you trying to find ways to eat healthier?
Basically, food swapping just means replacing a type of food you are currently eating that isn’t the best choice with a healthier, more nutritious option.
By doing this, you don’t have to give up foods + recipes you love! You just need to find ways to make them a bit healthier in order to up your healthy eating game.
So, that’s why I decided to create this EAT THIS, NOT THAT post today!
In this post I go over:
- 5 foods you should stop buying
- why they are aren’t the best choice
- + what you can replace them with
*I just want to be clear that these 5 foods aren’t necessarily “bad” foods. This post was written to help you see what healthier options are out there. You definitely don’t have to cut these foods out!! I would just recommend being mindful of how often you include them in your diet.
Why? They’re mostly made of water + vegetable/soybean oils [which are a fake, manmade chemical oil]. Studies have shown that these types of oils can affect the brain + are linked to anxiety + depression.
Instead, buy real butter sticks. Look to opt for clean, organic brands that are simply made up of cream + salt.
CANOLA + VEGETABLE OILS
Why? Just like I mentioned above about vegetable oil, canola oil is also a highly processed, manmade chemical oil that is not healthy for the body. It’s typically used in fast foods + processed, packaged foods as a cheap oil option.
Instead, buy extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil, or coconut oil. These are all healthier fats that are natural + are not pumped with chemicals.

WHITE + “ENRICHED” BREADS
Why? These types of bread have little-to-no healthy ingredients in them. When you see “enriched” on any food item, it means the product lacked natural nutrients so the company has to find ways to add them back into the product [usually chemicals + unnatural ingredients that aren’t healthy].
Instead, buy 100% whole grain or 100% whole wheat. 100% should be key because if it doesn’t include that number, you don’t really know how much of the product includes the grains [only that some are included — even at a tiny fraction]. Even if it doesn’t, it’s loads better than fake, white bread.

Why? 99% of flavored yogurts [strawberry, vanilla, etc] are jam-packed with added refined sugars that actually make the yogurt a dessert rather than a healthy choice.
Instead, buy yogurts with no added sugars [or maybe just 5g or less per serving]. It’s OK if they have sugar naturally. What you want to look for is the words “added sugars” on the nutrition facts + assess that number — the lower, the better.

PRE-MADE SMOOTHIE DRINKS
Why? Almost all pre-made smoothie drinks are full of sugar to make them taste good, making it a very unhealthy choice. Most include well over 20g+ per bottle! Again, makes them a sugar-packed dessert + takes up most of your sugar allowance for the day [with a crash shortly after]. Not worth it.
Instead, make your own! Smoothies simply take 2-3 minutes to make! Just grab a few frozen fruits/veggies + add in ice with water or milk + you’re good to go. Not only is it so much healthier. But, way cheaper!
